Observing Lent in 2014

Bill Brewer Lent, Media

With the arrival of Lent and the beginning of the Easter season on March 5, the Diocese of Knoxville will begin observing this holiest time of the year and the special events that mark it, such as Ash Wednesday, the days of fasting, the Rites of Election for RCIA candidates, and the sacraments of penance leading up to the Holy Week Masses and Easter Vigil.

The diocese will begin Lent with the start of the 40 Days for Life vigil in front of Planned Parenthood’s facility on Cherry Street at Washington Avenue in East Knoxville. Individuals and groups are urged to sign up for a day of prayer at the site, which is a block south of the Cherry Street exit off Interstate 40.
