Cardinal Justin Rigali is awake, alert, and resting comfortably following his hospitalization in Knoxville on Monday, Jan. 16.
Doctors are still evaluating a medical condition that required Cardinal Rigali to be hospitalized. The initial word of a possible stroke or heart condition was speculative.
Doctors continue to run tests.
It’s expected that Cardinal Rigali will remain hospitalized for at least a few days. Late Tuesday, Bishop Stika said that Cardinal Rigali, 87, is receiving excellent medical care from his doctors.

Jan. 26 update: Cardinal Justin Rigali was released from the hospital on Jan. 25 and is resting at home. Bishop Stika has asked for continued prayers for Cardinal Rigali's recovery and also complemented doctors and the staff at Parkwest for the excellent care the cardinal received.
