The Diocese of Knoxville and the St. Mary’s Legacy Clinic are pleased to announce the mobile medical clinic will provide access to free healthcare for patients in Crossville beginning April 23. The official ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at the new clinic site at St. Alphonsus Church on Tuesday, April 23 at 11:30 a.m. (CT).
“The St. Mary’s Legacy Clinic works as a partner with the communities it serves,” said clinic Executive Director Martin Vargas. “In this case, we appreciate the Crossville-Cumberland County Chamber of Commerce, the Cumberland County Mayor’s Office, the Crossville City Council and City Manager, the SACS Food Pantry at St. Alphonsus, and other community representatives who have helped make sure our clinic can now extend its healing mission to Crossville.”
“This is an exciting time for our medical mission,” he said. “There is clearly a need for our type of health-care services in the Crossville area. We have been visiting Crab Orchard since 2014. In fact, it was the first community we served. Over the years, we have discovered that more than 50 percent of our patients live in or near Crossville. Adding this new location will allow us to better meet their needs by reducing transportation concerns and hopefully serve even more people who find themselves without adequate, free health-care options in the Crossville area.”
The St. Mary's Legacy Clinic is a medical mission that travels to partner sites in underserved areas of East Tennessee. Its staff of professionals and volunteers offers people without medical insurance holistic, free, primary care services. This “family doctor’s office on wheels" provides care for both urgent health needs (i.e. acute illnesses, minor injuries, etc.) and chronic conditions (i.e. high blood pressure, diabetes, etc.).
The clinic will visit the St. Alphonsus location on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Crab Orchard visits will continue on the second Tuesday of each month. The clinic also visits Athens (McMinn Co.), Decatur (Meigs Co.), Gatlinburg (Sevier Co.), Knoxville (Knox Co.), Rutledge (Grainger Co.), Helenwood (Scott Co.), and Washburn (Grainger Co).
