Bishop Beckman said the diocese is prepared to provide support for the communities being affected by the storm and assist those in need throughout the area.
"As I am seeing the news reports of the flooding in East Tennessee and the many people impacted by the recent storms from Hurricane Helene, my heart is moved with compassion for all those who are suffering, and my prayer is for protection for all those who are in harm's way. Several of our parish communities are in areas impacted by the flooding. We are in communication with the pastors of those churches and are trying to get up to date information on what the local needs may be. I invite everyone to join me in prayer for those who are hurting, and as a diocese we will do all that we can to support those who have been affected by this disaster," Bishop Beckman said.
Catholic Charities of East Tennessee, a Diocese of Knoxville ministry, provides assistance in emergencies through its operations network and is ready to work with individuals and communities in need.
A second collection from Masses in all Diocese of Knoxville churches Oct. 5-6 will go to provide relief to those in need who have been impacted by the storm.
