I pray readers will forgive me if I ask the prayers of our Life At 25 readers because later today, myself and the other 22 candidates of the Diocese of Knoxville’s diaconate formation will be formally installed Lectors today. In so doing, we will do more than become readers at Mass, but will be seen to become servants and teachers of the Scriptures, God’s Word. As was said in our earlier post this week, a part of our retreat was devoted to preparing us in mind for the responsibilities of this ministry. The reason we are first placed in the ministry of Lector is that as Deacons, we will be expected to be servants and teachers of the Word and of prayer.
It also happens that today is also the 11th Wedding Anniversary for Nicole and myself, we were married on this day 11 years ago at Holy Cross Church in Pigeon Forge, and the Sacrament of Matrimony was witnessed by the late Father Jay Flaherty. Since it is our Anniversary today, I’m going to let Nicole decide what our plans ought to be after Mass, and sometime next week, I will have a reflection on the spiritual impact of the Mass and the investiture of the Ministry of Lector.
St. Lawrence the Deacon, pray for us!
