Hundreds attend NDHS Alumni Weekend

Notre Dame High School welcomed home hundreds of alumni from around the country during Alumni Weekend July 25-28. The weekend began with an awards ceremony honoring Sister Mary Evelyn Potts, OP (class of 1959), as Distinguished Alumna for 2013 and Ms. Jean Payne (class of 1978) as recipient of the Jim Phifer Service Award.

The Irish Classic Golf Tournament was held at Bear Trace Golf Course.  First place was awarded to the team of Mike Hennen, (class of 1972); Richard Keene, (class of 1976); Tom McKenna of Houston, TX, (class of 1975); and David McKenna, (class of 1976).  Second place was awarded to the team of Rick Eberle, (class of 1978); Richard Eberle, (class of 2005); Bill Eberle, (class of 1981); and Greg Howard.  Following the golf tournament, alumni gathered on campus for the Every-Class Bash.

Over 160 alums attended this year’s Golden Graduates Brunch, which was held at The Mill Event Center.  Two graduates, Jim and Brick Graham Burkart (class of 1938) were recognized as diamond graduates. Mr. and Mrs. Burkhart along with 44 members of the class of 1963 were presented with a pin by Notre Dame High School president, George Valadie, in honor of their milestone. Three additional alumni received the 50-year pin at the class of 1963 reunion at the Chattanooga Marriott.

The weekend concluded with Mass at the Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul.
