The seventh annual Southeastern Sacred Music workshop will be held Friday, July 29, and Saturday, July 30 at Holy Ghost Church in Knoxville. The event begins at 11:45 Friday and ends Saturday with a Mass at 5 p.m. in which participants will sing the chants, motets, and other music they’ve learned. Vespers will be sung Friday evening. (Participants who can’t come on Friday are welcome to join Saturday only.)
This day-and-a-half workshop gives Church musicians (whether beginners or advanced) and clergy an opportunity to improve their skills in Gregorian chant and sacred polyphony, to deepen their understanding and love of the Mass, and to enjoy the company of like-minded Catholic musicians.
Experienced music directors from parishes throughout the Southeast will offer workshops on learning and singing chant, choosing worthy music for Mass, the Church's documents on the liturgy, organ improvisation on chant, developing a music program on a tiny budget, and much more. Keynote speaker will be Father Robert Pasley, chaplain of the Church Music Association of America (CMAA) and pastor of Mater Ecclesiae parish in Berlin, New Jersey.
The tuition fee ($90; $75 with coupon code) covers all materials, lunch on Saturday, and coffee and snacks both days.
Southeastern Sacred Music is a chapter of the Church Music Association of America.
