Maundy Thursday, or Holy Thursday, commemorates Jesus washing of the feet of the Apostles and the Last Supper where Jesus instituted the sacrament of the Eucharist.
It was on that night that Jesus was arrested.
"Maundy" comes from the Latin mandatum, or commandment, reflecting Jesus' words in John 13:34: "I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, that you also love one another."
Bishop Stika will celebrate the Mass of the Lord's Supper at the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus at 7 p.m.
