Summer Challenge Survivor Camp for Girls @ Christ Prince of Peace Retreat Center
Jul 17 – Jul 19 all-day

Summer Challenge Survivor Camp

The Diocese of Knoxville offers a unique opportunity for young girls to come together during the summer to; meet teens their own age, celebrate life, explore nature and  discern what is the will of God for their life. All this takes place at the Newly developed 52 acre Christ Prince of Peace Retreat Center in Benton Tennessee.  This camp ground features 2 rustic cabins and is limited to 36 persons each session. Space is very limited so hurry and don’t miss out.

Adolescents have questions and in Challenge we try to help them discover the answers to their questions. Sometimes those answers come in activities, experiences, moments of prayer or moments with their team leaders or volunteers. Whatever the moment may be, we need to be aware of what questions adolescents have and what answers we want to help them discover during the camp.

All camps are open to anyone in the Diocese of Knoxville. The camp is specifically designed for Girls who are entering grade 5 through Grade 8.  Teen Leaders will be supervised by adult volunteers.

Virtue, Faith and Teamwork

Learn to Face Life’s Adventures with Christ

Goal of Our Challenge Survivor Camp

To help each girl have a strong experience of God´s love and realize that He is with them through all of life’s challenges. Help them learn to live with strong Christian virtues and convictions and being a light for the world around them.

Note: The retreat is loosely based off of the idea of the TV show SURVIVOR. The show maroons a group of strangers (as one or more tribes) in a desolate locale, where they must provide food, water, fire, and shelter for themselves, while competing in challenges to earn either a reward, or an immunity from expulsion from the game in the next of the successive votes for elimination. The last two or three survivors face a jury composed of the last seven, eight, or nine players voted off. That jury interrogates the final few, and then votes for the winner of the game, the title of Sole Survivor and a million dollar prize.
We will not be following the whole voting or sole survivor aspect of the show, but rather focusing on the Team challenges and games. We will also be referring to the teams as tribes to stick with the theme.

Our motto is “A wedding is a day, a marriage is a lifetime.” Most people spend months planning and many dollars preparing for their wedding. But how much time and effort do we spend preparing for what we hope will last 50 or 60 years—our marriage? Catholic Engaged Encounter is a weekend to plan for a sacramental marriage. It is designed to give couples the opportunity to talk privately, honestly and intensively about their prospective lives together—their strengths and weaknesses, desires, ambitions, goals, their attitudes about money, sex, children, family, their role in the church and society—in a guided format. Cost of the weekend is $289 per couple, which includes a certificate good for a $60 discount on the couple’s marriage license in Tennessee.

Walking with Youth – Preparing for the Synod on Young People, the Faith, and Vocational Discernment, @ St. John Neumann (Seton Hall)
Sep 15 @ 9:00 am – 2:00 pm

Accompanying Youth

The Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry along with the Center for Ministry Development invites you to join us for our 2018 National Workshop which is guided by the Synod on Young People, the Faith, and Vocational Discernment. This workshop will explore accompaniment as our model for ministry with youth and their families, and engage participants in practical ways they can support young people in discernment and prayer.

Accompaniment is our model for ministry with youth and their families. God began the conversation with young people; our job is to pay attention to what God is doing in the lives of young people, walk with youth as they grow in discipleship, and help them discern their response to God’s plan for their life. This workshop will explore ways to help youth pray and discern their vocation. Topics include:

  • Accompanying Youth Today
  • Becoming a Faith Companion
  • Guiding Youth in Discernment
  • Helping Youth Pray
  • Empowering a Community that Accompanies

The workshop is guided by the 2018 Synod on Young People, the Faith and Vocational Discernment. It is designed for all parish leaders whose ministries touch the lives of adolescents and their families—including pastors, deacons, pastoral associates, coordinators of youth ministry, leaders in faith formation and catechists, Confirmation preparation leaders, and service/social concerns leaders.

Registration Fee: $54 per person, includes workshop materials, lunch, and refreshments. Download the brochure with registration form to register by mail.

Please join us for interactive learning, conversation, prayer and discovery around forming our young people as missionary disciples.

The day begins with registration and check-in at 8:30 AM and the workshop is from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Lunch is provided at noon.

Chattanooga SEARCH Weekend #155 @ Christ Prince of Peace Retreat Center
Sep 28 @ 7:00 pm – Sep 30 @ 5:00 pm

SEARCH for Christian Maturity is a retreat program that tries to help high school juniors and seniors see how they can be faith leaders in their schools and parishes. This is done by having the participants come to know God, themselves, and others in a more loving, personal way.

SEARCH is not a means purposely set up to correct one’s character, morals, emotions or troubled school or family life. It is a method of providing people with a way of encountering themselves, others and God in a way which is unique and powerful. SEARCH helps people to see the need to bring their spiritual life into more conscious contact with their day-to-day living.

The essential component of SEARCH is its youth-to-youth approach, referred to as peer ministry. This component cannot be stressed enough; other programs can be valuable, but no one can talk with and relate to another better than a peer.

So, SEARCH is basically a weekend experience in Christian living. It is designed to help people see their value as human beings and members of a loving community. This happens as the team and the Searchers share their thoughts, feelings and ideas. Participants are then challenged to take their growth and ideas back to their families, schools and parish communities.

Central Elements

There are six elements that we hope each SEARCH weekend will highlight and that each participant will take away from the retreat. These central elements are:

Trust               Sharing               Community               Prayer               Growth               Fun

SEARCH aim is to help Catholic high school juniors and seniors take a fresh look at their own faith journey, reflecting on their place within their families, schools, parishes and community as a disciple of Christ. This is accomplished through activities and experiences that lead participants to a renewed understanding of Christ at work in their lives.

SEARCH is facilitated by teens for teens with the guidance of adult SEARCH Coordinators.
The main focus of the retreat is three fold:
Motivating the youth to seek a personal relationship with Christ.
Getting young people involved with their respective parishes.
Promoting leadership.
