Representatives from the Diocese of Knoxville have delivered to the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints all the paperwork that was done for the cause of Servant of God Father Patrick Ryan.

National Vocation Awareness Week is an annual week-long celebration (Nov. 5-11) dedicated to promoting vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and consecrated life through prayer and education. The Diocese of Knoxville is one step closer in the cause for beatification and canonization of Servant of God Father Patrick Ryan. The Closing Session of the Tribunal of the Diocese of Knoxville for the inquiry examining the life, virtues, offering of life, reputation of holiness, and signs of intercessory power of the Servant of God Father Patrick Ryan took place on Sept. 28 at the Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul in Chattanooga.

Father Paul Altman Hostettler died Wednesday, Oct. 18, in Nashville. He had celebrated his 100th birthday in May, and was a priest for over 73 years.  

St. Mary School in Oak Ridge has recently been loaned a unique print to display from Picasso’s Imaginary Series, Shakespeare. The Warne family have loved being a part of the Oak Ridge community and St. Mary Parish and School since 1952.

The Latin Catholic patriarch of Jerusalem has called for a day of prayer and fasting on Tuesday, Oct. 17, for peace and reconciliation in the Holy Land.

Permanent deacons share in the mission of Christ and are ordained to be a witness to the Gospel through a life of service. Mary Ann Deschaine, the new superintendent of Catholic schools, made the journey to all 10 Diocese of Knoxville schools at the beginning of the school year to get better acquainted with diocesan students and their teachers.

Archbishop Shelton J. Fabre extended his hand and said only five words to start his homily in the dedication Mass for the new St. Alphonsus Church in Crossville on Sept. 12, and the assembly erupted in applause. “Well, what do you think?”

There are a variety of ministries in which lay Catholics serve the Church. But when Mary Serbin and Randy Perrault answered the call, God had a slightly different path in mind for them. It’s a route marked by Interstates 40 and 75 and byways leading to rural destinations as drivers for the St. Mary’s Legacy Clinic.

Parishioners in all four Diocese of Knoxville deaneries met Archbishop Shelton J. Fabre and listened as he shared the Gospel and his outlook for the Catholic Church in East Tennessee during the week of Aug. 14, his first sojourn into the heart of the diocese since he was named its apostolic administrator.

There will be a second collection after Masses this weekend, Sept. 16-17, to support the St. Mary's Legacy Clinic. This unique medical ministry provides care to the uninsured in rural East Tennessee.

The faithful of the Diocese of Knoxville are asked to pray as a community and individual for our future shepherd, that the Lord will help him to fill our minds and hearts with the truth of the Gospel, the power of the sacraments, and the desire to build up the Church.

All are invited to the closing session of the Tribunal of Inquiry for Father Patrick Ryan and evening prayer at the Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul on Sept. 28 at 5:30 p.m.
