Bishop Stika statement on immigration reform

BishopStika_portraitI welcome this long overdue move to begin the process of addressing immigration reform in our country. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, of which I belong, has worked hard to promote a solution that both respects the laws of our country and protects the dignity of the individuals and families involved.

I pray that this decision sparks honest and genuine debate by all of our representatives and ultimately leads to cooperative and permanent action by our leaders—action that upholds our tradition as a kind and generous nation rooted in fairness, forgiveness and family.
