Bishop Richard F. Stika resting after heart procedure

The Diocese of Knoxville has received very encouraging news from Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville. Bishop Richard F. Stika underwent a heart catheterization procedure shortly after 10:30 a.m., and his doctor is pleased with how everything went. One vessel was significantly blocked (99 percent), and therefore the doctor performed an angioplasty and inserted one stent.

Bishop Stika appears to be doing well. He will be hospitalized overnight as a precaution. Doctor Stephen L. Marietta, a Knoxville cardiologist, performed the procedure.

The Diocese of Knoxville will offer an update when Bishop Stika is released from the hospital. The bishop has extended his thanks and appreciation for all of the prayers he has received during this time.
