The Mass to reaffirm marriage vows was initiated by the Diocese of Knoxville’s Office of Marriage Preparation and Enrichment.  It is one of three marriage celebrations schedule in 2016 and early 2017.  The first Mass was celebrated at St. Mary in Johnson City.  The next marriage celebration will be held on Jan. 28, 2017 at Our Lady of Fatima in Alcoa.  Click here to learn more.

Fifty-five couples and their families attended the Sept. 24 celebration in Chattanooga.  Among them were four couples who have been married at least 50 years: Tony & Mary Portera (53), Steve & Linda McGann (50), Elizabeth & John Miles (50), and Bert & Sue Shramko (50).  Following the Mass, couples were honored at a luncheon and cut a wedding cake with Bishop Stika.

Marian Christiana, director of the Office of Marriage Preparation and Enrichment, credits the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus for their help in registering many of the Latino couples who participated in the celebration.
