Youth Leadership Institute (YLI) – “SHEEP2SHEPHERD”
Mark 6:33-34 When he disembarked and saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.
Or like the prophet Jeremiah, I will appoint shepherds for them who will shepherd them so that they need no longer fear and tremble; and none shall be missing, says the LORD. You are called to serve the Lord. Like the prophet Jeremiah you may feel you lack experience or talents to witness for the Lord. YLI is an opportunity for youth of our diocese to gather together in common faith and fellowship to learn the dynamics of Christian leadership as developed in Sacred Scripture, Church Tradition and teaching, Christian witness and discipleship.
You will attend workshops on faith development, leadership styles, methods of prayer, how to run meetings, how to lead prayer services and sharing sessions. These workshops will help you to develop the skills and insight needed to return home and be the Christian leader you are called to be in your home, parish, school and community. Registration is open to all High School youth deadline is Friday, June 15.
The Diocesan Youth Ministry Staff, together with DYMAC representatives from all 4 of our deaneries have been working for several months to plan YLI and enhance what has been a very good program for the Church of East Tennessee. We have made some changes to help us enhance our program. At YLI we will incorporate some new and dynamic speakers who are known for their expertise in Church doctrine as well as seasoned professionals in youth ministry.
Additionally, we have moved to a new date at our location of, Horn’s Creek NOC Resort in Ocoee. This new date, will help us to amplify the focus on leadership and team building opportunities. Lodging is located in the Sunset, Big Timber, Stone, and Cedar Lodges. These lodges limit the enrollment of 100 teens. Participants will be housed with people from other deaneries and parishes so that they will have the opportunity to meet new people from throughout the Knoxville Diocese.
Each participant is expected to fully participate in all planed programming throughout their time at the conference. In addition to the workshops there will be an opportunity to participate in a low ropes challenge course, swimming, evening programs and even some free time. Parish Youth Ministers are invited to join us for all or part of the YLI experience.
Registration is now open to all High School Youth on a first come first served basis through June 15, 2012. All forms and Payment in full is due at this time. Registration may be done on line with copies to the Deanery Coordinator, and the local parish coordinator of youth ministry.
