Continuing the mission and ministry service modeled by Christ, the Office of Stewardship and Planned Giving serves to foster education, encouragement, and promotion of stewardship practices, supporting the growth and development of the church in East Tennessee through offerings of time, talent, and treasure.

“The promotion of the practice of stewardship is important for the mission of the church and for the spiritual well-being of each individual Christian. Everyone benefits from the sacrificial gift one makes of his time, talent, and treasure.”
—Pope Benedict XVI

Stewardship and Planned Giving

Based on Scripture, stewardship recognizes God’s love in gifts that we receive and possess. Gratefully acknowledging God’s generosity, we serve as stewards by using and sharing our individual gifts in love of God and neighbor.

Continuing the mission and ministry of service modeled by Christ, the Office of Stewardship and Development serves to foster educational formation and promotion of stewardship practices through offerings of prayer, time, talent, and treasure.

Development builds on the relationship with God as reflected in stewardship formation and expression. Faith and vision are integrated to serve the mission of the church. Throughout the Diocese of Knoxville, needs are identified and fulfilled through organization, strategic planning, public relations, and charitable giving.

  • Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA): Diocesan ministries and programs are funded through parishioners’ personal offerings of prayer, time, talent and treasure.
  • Catholic Foundation of East Tennessee (CFET): The foundation is vital to the building of the church within the Diocese of Knoxville. CFET members and benefactors help the diocese buy property for new parishes and provide financial support for seminarian education. To learn more, contact  Maura Lentz, Admin. Asst.
  • Stewardship formation: Life and stewardship formation are developmental. The Stewardship Office assists and nurtures the development of people of all ages by providing information, resources, programs, materials, and support to parishes and organizations.
  • Stewardship programs and workshops: For information on presentations and workshops on stewardship for parishes and other organizations, contact the Stewardship Office. Programs are available for people of all ages.

U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB)

In 1993 the U.S. bishops published a pastoral letter on stewardship titled “Stewardship: A Disciple’s Response.” A 10th-anniversary edition has since been published. The letter is a great resource for understanding stewardship in relation to God and others, and it serves as a call to holiness as a way of living.
