Receive the book of the gospel whose herald you have become. Believe what you read. Teach what you believe. Practice what you teach

Welcome

These are the pages of the Office of the Diaconate and Deacon Formation.  Here you will find information concerning the Permanent Diaconate for the Diocese of Knoxville.  Whether you are inquiring about the Permanent Diaconate and discerning the vocation or if you are already in formation these pages contain valuable information and materials that can be downloaded or browsed.  If you are already an Ordained Permanent Deacon, these pages contain materials concerning ongoing formation, retreats, schedules and other information to be shared with the diaconal community.  The links along the right hand side will take you to the appropriate place.  There is also a section for “Blogs and Media” if you are simply looking for inspiration that is diaconal in nature.

As way of general information, there are currently 57 Permanent Deacons serving in 28 parishes across the diocese.  These are men involved in a variety of ministries and activities including, law enformcement, prisons, food banks, minority outreach, hospital chaplaincy, hospice, homebound visitations, education and others too numerous to list.  They minister in the parish, in the marketplace, and in those areas in need of the Church’s presence.  They are defined not just by what they do… but, truly by who they are.  They live out their call to Holy Orders remembering always the words of ordinations…

“Be configured to Christ; who came to serve, not to be served…”

So, browse the pages and the links and know that I appreciate feedback.  If you have questions or comments concerning the Permanent Diaconate in the Diocese of Knoxville, please click on my name (link above) and send me an E-mail.
