The Office of Christian Formation “is the means which the bishop as head of the community and teacher of doctrine utilizes to direct and moderate all the catechetical activities of the diocese” (General Directory for Catechesis, No. 265). The Office of Christian Formation assists the diocesan bishop in his role as the chief catechist by

  • coordinating faith-formation endeavors for people of all ages within our parishes and schools
  • educating and certifying catechists
  • providing ongoing meetings with directors of religious education
  • consulting on the selection of religious-education textbooks and resource materials assessments
  • implementing guidelines for lifelong parish catechesis and sacramental preparation
  • sponsoring distance learning opportunities with Catholic universities

Ministries Day 2016

Ministries Day will be held August 20 at All Saints Catholic Church (Knoxville) from 9:30am to 3:30pm. The theme is “Merciful like the Father.” This event is open to all who share the Catholic Faith … Parents, Student Youth Leaders, Coordinators of Youth Ministry, RCIA Teams, Adult Educators, Liturgy & Ministry Teams, DREs, Catechists & Assistants, etc. Over twenty individual workshops will be offered, including a Spanish tract – there will be something for everyone! Cost is $20 and includes lunch. Please register before August 10. After August 10, the cost remains $20 but lunch is not guaranteed. Sessions are first come, first served. Class sizes are limited, so register early to get your first choice.

The opening address will be given by Bishop Stika. Workshops will feature presenters from within our own diocese such as Fr. Michael Sweeney, Fr. Randy Stice, Fr. David Carter, Fr. John Orr, Fr. Richard Armstrong, Deacon David Lucheon, Deacon Tim Elliot, Deacon Bill Jacobs, Sr. Mary Timothea, Paul Simoneau, Marian Christiana, Dave Wells, Bob Hunt, Marty and Chris Silver, and Annie Nassis. We will also have accomplished presenters from outside of the diocese: Jason Gale from Aquinas College, Tom McCabe from Ascension Press, Carol Nichols from Pflaum Publications, and Michael Trujillo from Catholic Relief Services.
