Job opportunities

East Tennessee is an area of abundant natural beauty, bounded by the Smoky Mountains to the east and the Cumberland Mountains to the west, and possessing many beautiful rivers and lakes. The economic and cultural characteristics of its people are as varied as its geography. The Appalachian mountain culture reflects the traditions of both rural mountain peoples and Native Americans. By contrast, the urban areas include research facilities, thriving manufacturing and service industries, and companies both long established and newly created. There are four major universities within the diocese and a vibrant system of community colleges, and a high concentration of medical facilities. The Department of Energy has a national laboratory (and other facilities) in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Knoxville hosted the 1982 World’s Fair, and tourism is a significant part of the state’s economy.

Formerly a part of the Diocese of Nashville, the Diocese of Knoxville was founded in 1988. The diocese covers the 36 counties of East Tennessee, from Georgia to Virginia and Kentucky, an area of 14,000 square miles. With a Catholic population that has more than doubled since the diocese’s founding and the addition of seven new parishes during the same time, we have been truly blessed. We need committed and qualified employees to serve the growing Catholic community.
