Daily Scriptures
No matter where in the world Catholics worship, they hear the same Scripture passages proclaimed at Mass (in their own language) on a given day.
The Bible readings for each day are published in a book called the Lectionary, which contains a three-year cycle of readings for Sundays, feasts of the Lord (his birth, baptism, and ascension into heaven, for example), and some other major holy days. Readings for weekdays and lesser feasts follow a two-year cycle.
Explore the readings of the day on the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ website.
You can now also listen to sound files—podcasts—of the Bible readings for the day and to reflections on those readings. Learn more on the U.S. bishops’ website or subscribe to the podcasts on iTunes.
The entire New American Bible may also be found on the USCCB site.
Those who would like to pray the Liturgy of the Hours—including morning and evening prayer and the Office of Readings—can find the day’s prayers here.
